Transport and Licensing
The Shire of Plantagenet is an agent for the Department of Transport. The Shire Office is able to take payments and process most Drivers Licence and Vehicle Registration transactions during opening hours, Monday to Friday 9.00am – 4.15pm.
Please note that the Shire can only deal with in person transactions and enquiries for transport related matters. Phone enquiries should be made with the Department of Transport on 13 11 56.
Driver’s Licence Information
You can renew your driver’s licence (including having your photo taken) at the Shire Office. Please remember to bring in your renewal notice and your previous driver’s licence. Licences are produced in Perth and will be sent to you in the post within 4 weeks.
Learners Permits - You do not need to book an appointment to sit the computerised theory test or hazard perception test, however they can only be done between 9.00am and 3.30pm at the Shire Office. Practical Driving Assessments can be done at the Shire Office and may be booked online on the Department of Transport website, phoning the Department of Transport on 13 11 56 or by coming in to the Shire Office. Please bring your Learner’s Permit with you.
Vehicle Registrations
Payment of vehicle renewals, transfers and de-registering of vehicles can be done at the Shire Office. If you wish to register an unlicensed vehicle, it will need to be inspected first. The closest inspection point is the Mount Barker Service Centre.
The Shire Office is able to receipt payment for boat registrations and transfer of ownership however for all other information relating to boating please visit the Department of Transport Boat Registration website
Firearms Licence
Payments for Firearms Licences can be made at the Mount Barker Post Office.
