Road Maintenance

The Shire's annual budget includes funds for road maintenance such as grading of gravel roads, repairs and unblocking of drains and culverts, verge spraying and pruning, mulching, replacement and upgrading of signage, edge patching and repairs of potholes. If you identify a maintenance requirement, please click here to complete a Roadworks Request Form. Please note that road grading is dependent on weather conditions and cannot necessarily be carried out when requested.

Road Construction

The construction and maintenance of existing roads takes a large portion of the Shire's budget, usually equivalent to the amount of rates raised. This year there are a number of programs in place which deal with the long term planning for the maintenance and upgrading of the road network. These include a road resealing program, road reconstruction program and upgrade of townsite drainage.

The roadworks program is formulated taking into consideration the amount of funding that can be attracted from the Federal and State Governments, to reduce the burden on ratepayers. These programs are developed one to two years in advance of the Council setting its annual budget.

Local Government annual budgets take into account anticipated works for the ensuing year and the amount of revenue that is required to meet that commitment. Having established the works program, the Council is unable to approve additional works during the year unless it deletes works of corresponding value already approved. To meet strict budget preparation deadlines, ratepayers are urged to contact their Councillors before the end of March each year with any requests they want considered by Council for inclusion in the budget.
