Concrete core sampling and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) testing on the 50m pool were completed 9 April and the results will help determine its structural integrity. It will also enable Shire of Plantagenet Councillors to make informed decisions regarding major remediation works required to maximise the lifespan of the pool.
Concrete core samples previously collected from the pool in 2019 indicated that the concrete was in stable condition. However, in order to maximise the lifespan of the pool and to meet current public health requirements, a refurbishment is required.
The extent of the refurbishment cannot be determined without further investigations on the pool bowl, including water loss testing and concrete core samples from the base and wall of the pool.
This will allow the Shire to compare the range of options, finding a way forward that is affordable while also delivering an aquatic space suited to the community.
Shire of Plantagenet Council endorsed a concept plan for a new toddler Splash Pool and a Learn to Swim pool in December 2023.
Once decisions have been made regarding the 50m pool, detailed design plans can be prepared in order to move forward to the construction phase.
