Last week, we provided a free program of activities for over 55-year-olds.

The Mount Barker Rec.Centre WA hosted free trials of their strength and conditioning program, WISE.
The Mount Barker Public Library - WA hosted 13 seniors for Scrabble and Scones. This event was so popular, the library team are considering a monthly Scrabble or boardgames morning in 2025. Watch this space!
They also hosted WA Country Health Service Population Health Coordinator Tracy Waddell, who gave a presentation about the HEAL Great Southern program. The evidence-based healthy lifestyle program is hoped to run in Mount Barker in 2025.
Grandparents joined a special Celebrate Grandparents Storytime at the library, with a craft activity after story time.
About 20 seniors participated in the 55+ Fun Fest, which kicked off at the Rec Centre. After an interactive session with local physiotherapist Nathan Graham, they tried out the gym, then headed to the Mount Barker Bowls & Sporting Club for bowls, table tennis and lunch. In the afternoon, they played disc golf and golf at the Mount Barker Golf Club.
The biggest celebration was the free morning tea provided by the Shire, supported by funding from the Council of the Ageing WA, Department of Communities and Lotterywest, at the Celebrate the Success of Empowering Plantagenet Seniors event. A lively atmosphere with more than 50 seniors joining the fun!
Shire President Len Handasyde said seniors formed the foundations we all stand on today and continue to make significant contributions to the Plantagenet community, which are appreciated by the community and the Council.
“Without our seniors, Plantagenet wouldn’t be such an enjoyable place to live, work and visit," Cr Handasyde said.
“Thank you for all you have done and continue to do.”
